Leading with Integrity and Impact: Mindful Leadership

Leaders enact choices each day that create paths to success, failure or mediocrity in their organizations. With an increased awareness of what's important, leaders exponentially increase their capacity to make fully informed, holistic choices, and increase potential for stunning, sustained success and impact.

As a leader what kind of path are you creating? 

Mindful leadership challenges us to 'show up,' to broaden our learning to encompass an awareness of multiple perspectives and possibilities, to create new categories of understanding that align with core values, and to open ourselves to new, inside-out thinking, creative decision-making, innovative solutions.

Sessions around this topic may take on many formats, depending on the client’s needs, and could span weeks or months, depending on the scope of the collaboration. It begins with The Leadership Review, during which we thoroughly examine current understandings, practices, and the overall culture of leadership in your organization. In the process we will share our findings, seeking the input of leaders involved. The Leadership Review may involve:

 

  • conducting perspective-seeking interviews with a wide range of stakeholders to discern the effects of current leadership;
  • listening for stories of ‘best practices’ that suggest leadership elements most valued by the organization;
  • analyzing leaders' current practices;
  • reviewing historical documents of the organization, such as annual reports, job advertisements or newsletters, to "see" just how leadership manifests in the organization;and
  • offering communication tools to spotlight interactive strengths and skills.

The end result of The Leadership Review is to build a collaborative experience of ownership to foster mindful leadership with those directly responsible for exercising it.

Following The Leadership Review, coaching with individual leaders and their teams provides focus to tap into the 'best' of what each leader or team member brings to the table. From this, we create mindful practices that will sustain success in the organization.

This may involve:

  • one-on-one coaching to encourage each leader to develop the discipline of awareness, to foster intentionality and presence, and to clarify what's important for both the organization and their personal aspirations;
  • team coaching to create work teams that are respectful of individuals, yet build on the collective talents of the group to attain personal and organizational success;
  • regular peer-to-peer meetings to stimulate innovative ways to align strengths and skills with the critical paths to mindful, transformative leadership identified in The Leadership Review.
